California hates freedom

Down with San Francisco Values.

California is a beautiful state. Home of natural wonders of all sorts, from the mountains of the Sierra Nevada to the deserts of Death Valley. But the fact remains, they hate freedom. Now some town near the fascist capital that is San Francisco is try to stop poor old ladies who have been smoking two packs a day for 50 years from smoking in their own apartments. I think people who have smoked two packs a day for 50 years should be given medals not be made criminals.

Best Songs Ever #1

In addition to this blog, I write on The Hadal Zone which concentrates on finding and posting forgotten albums that everyone should hear. I have decided to present to you some of the best songs ever, regardless of their obscurity or pervasiveness.

My first choice is the song Hallogallo by the orginators of krautrock, Neu!. I have been into krautrock for a while now and would probably list Can as one of my top ten favorite bands, but I just listened to Neu!'s self titled for the first time a couple weeks ago and this song is just too much. It is the prototypical krautrock track. Paradigm of hipster taste Pitchfork Media described the song as " a masterpiece of rhythm: tight drums, funky guitar scratch, a coolly insistent bassline, futuro synths, and effects-laden guitar slinging wide acid-fried launches into deep space."

Not Enough Jokes

My hypothesis that Barack Obama's presidency will be characterized by a severe lack of jokes was supported by the entire day of the Inauguration. Obama himself did not make a funny joke even though he had good opportunities to. Reverend Lowery was the only guy to make a joke the whole day and he did a good job. Obama should take a page out of old W's Bush and say some jokes or at least some unintentionally funny shit. I miss that wily Texan already.
